What changed in each version

  1. BeatAtlas 1.0.2

    17 October 2026 · current version

What's new in 1.0.2. The analysis helper now runs only inside BeatAtlas.

What's new in 1.0.1. Analysis now works when BeatAtlas is started from the installer's last page. On some PCs whose Windows carries its own, older copy of ONNX Runtime, 1.0.0 said "The analysis model could not be loaded" until it was restarted.

What it does. BeatAtlas listens to a song and finds its beats, bars and time signatures (also where they change), the hits of kick, snare, hi-hat and bass, and the bars it is not sure of. Mark the song up while it plays (markers snap to the beats or hits), see every marker in a list with exact times and timecode, and export marker CSVs for REAPER and MagicQ, a cue list, a MIDI tempo map, a timecode (LTC) WAV and a click track. Standalone program and VST3 plugin.

Installing. The installer is not signed yet, so Windows warns that its publisher is unknown: click "More info", then "Run anyway". Needs Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and the free Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64). Choose "Install for me only" unless several people use the PC; REAPER finds the plugin there by default.

Licence. Try it free for 7 days (the demo needs the internet once), then buy a key. A key works on 2 computers and covers version 1 with all 1.x updates. BeatAtlas works offline and checks in once every 30 days; audio and file names never leave your PC.

    Known limits

    • Windows only. Beats and bars cannot be edited by hand; markers can.
    • Quiet passages can be read at half speed (say 55 instead of 110 BPM).
    • The timecode WAV and the cue list have not been tried on a console yet; the MIDI tempo map was checked in REAPER only.
    • One song at a time.
  2. BeatAtlas 1.0.1

    17 October 2026

    BeatAtlas 1.0.1, commit d950defec560 2026-10-17

WHAT IT DOES BeatAtlas listens to a song and finds its beats, bars and time signatures (also where they change), the hits of kick, snare, hi-hat and bass, and the bars it is not sure of. You mark the song up while it plays (markers snap to the beats or hits), see every marker in a list with exact times and timecode, and export: marker CSVs for REAPER and MagicQ, a cue list, a MIDI tempo map, a timecode (LTC) WAV and a click track. Standalone program and VST3 plugin.

WHAT IS NEW Analysis now works when started from the installer's last page (it said "The analysis model could not be loaded" if Windows had an older ONNX Runtime).

INSTALLING If your browser blocks the download as not commonly downloaded, choose Keep. Run BeatAtlas-1.0.1-setup.exe. It is not signed yet, so Windows warns that its publisher is unknown. If Windows warns, click "More info", then "Run anyway". Choose "Install for me only" unless several people use this PC. It needs Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and the free Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64); if that is missing the installer says so. A newer version installs over this one, keeping your settings and cache. Start BeatAtlas from the Start menu (BeatAtlas) and click Open... to choose a song (WAV, MP3, FLAC or AIFF).

THE VST3 IN YOUR DAW "For me only" puts it in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Common\VST3, the per-user VST3 folder of Steinberg's standard. REAPER looks there by default (if it was open, restart it, or Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > VST > Re-scan); other DAWs may not. If yours does not list BeatAtlas, add that folder to its VST3 folders, or install "for all users" (C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3, which every DAW scans; uninstall the "for me only" one first). In REAPER: the track's FX button > Add > VST3: BeatAtlas (ArcSeven Ltd); then click Open... in BeatAtlas to choose the song.

LICENCE Try it free for 7 days (the demo needs the internet once), then buy a key at https://beatatlas.co.uk. A key works on 2 computers and covers version 1 with all 1.x updates. BeatAtlas works offline and checks in once every 30 days. Everything runs on your PC; only the licence check-in goes online, never audio or file names. Copyright (c) 2026 ArcSeven Ltd. All rights reserved. Licensed to you under EULA.txt; the software of others in it keeps its own licences (THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt). libsoxr (worker\soxr.dll) is under the GNU LGPL: its source, soxr-1.1.0.tar.gz, comes with the installer.

    KNOWN LIMITS

    • Windows only. Beats and bars cannot be edited by hand; markers can. Quiet passages can be read at half speed (say 55 instead of 110 BPM).
    • The timecode WAV and the cue list have not been tried on a console yet.
    • The MIDI tempo map was checked in REAPER only.
    • One song at a time. The analysis cache never shrinks; delete it at will.

REMOVING Windows Settings > Apps > BeatAtlas > Uninstall. Your beat maps, settings (%APPDATA%\BeatAtlas) and cache (%LOCALAPPDATA%\BeatAtlas\cache) are kept.
