Features

Everything BeatAtlas does for a show.

From a song file to timing your console and DAW can use: detection you can check, markers you place, and exports in the formats your tools already read.

The start of a song in BeatAtlas: bar numbers with the 4/4 signature, the waveform with its bar lines and the beat count under each beat, and below it the Hits lanes, kick 108 of 108, snare 65 of 65, hi-hat 105 of 105, bass 106 of 106 and the full mix, each hit a tick in its colour, with the salience control above them.

01 Detection

The structure of the song, found for you.

BeatAtlas analyses the song on your PC and lays out what it found on one timeline.

  • Every beat and downbeat, with bar numbers
  • Time signatures from 2 to 7 beats a bar, including changes in the middle of a song (4/4 to 7/8, say)
  • The tempo, shown as you play
  • Kick, snare, hi-hat and bass hits in their own lanes, with a salience control
  • The bars it is least sure of marked in amber, with their confidence, so you check those first
The rows above the waveform: the section band with Intro, Verse and Seven-eight, each in its own colour; the bar numbers; and the markers Intro hit, Lights up, Strobe, Blackout and Snare roll in, each a coloured tag at its place.

02 Sections and markers

Mark the song the way you program it.

  • Add sections, name them and colour them
  • Drop markers while the song plays, or click to place them
  • Snap to beats or to hits, or switch snapping off; drag and nudge precisely
  • Name and colour each marker; markers are grouped by section
  • Undo and redo
The Automatic markers panel: place a marker on hits, bars or sections, across the whole song, a section or a selection, from the lanes shown at a salience, named and coloured by lane, skipping places that already have a marker, shown on the timeline first; it reads "5 markers would be added" above the Add 5 markers button.

03 Automatic markers and Find similar

Let BeatAtlas place the repetitive ones.

Place markers on hits, bars or sections across the whole song, one section or a selection, and preview them before you add them. Find similar takes a stretch you select, finds every other place with the same pattern, and copies your markers to the ones you tick.

The marker list: name, time, timecode at 30 fps, bar and beat, section and colour for each marker.

04 The marker list

Every cue, to the frame.

  • Name, time, timecode, bar and beat, section, colour and note
  • Timecode at 30 fps by default; other frame rates selectable
  • A start time to match your show clock
  • Filter, sort and edit in place; pop it out into its own window

05 Exports

Five formats, one dialog.

  1. CSV
REAPER markersYour markers with names, colours and exact times, sections as regions if you want them. Several lighting packages import this layout.
  2. CSV
Cue listNumber, name, time and timecode, for any desk or spreadsheet.
  3. MIDI
Tempo mapTempo and time signatures, with your markers, so a DAW's grid follows the song.
  4. WAV
LTC timecodeMono, or stereo with the song on one side and timecode on the other. Pre-roll and level set by you.
  5. WAV
Click trackA click on every beat and a higher one on each bar. Mix in your markers and the song.
The Export dialog, for REAPER and consoles: your markers as a REAPER marker CSV or a plain cue list CSV, bars and sections, hits at a salience, and the tempo map as a MIDI file.

Standalone app and VST3 plugin

BeatAtlas runs as a program of its own and as a VST3 plugin for Windows DAWs. Deeper REAPER integration (following the playhead, one-click apply) is planned for a later update.

Works offline

The analysis runs on your PC; nothing is uploaded. After activation BeatAtlas works with no internet, checking in with our server at least every 30 days, or by file on a show PC that never goes online.

Playback that helps you listen

A click on the beats and the hits, the song's volume, and slower playback that keeps the pitch, for checking a fast fill.

Audio files

WAV, AIFF, FLAC and MP3. Your maps are saved beside the song, and keep opening even without a licence.
